Sticky Note Journaling Week 5 – Random Thoughts
It is week 5 of the Sticky Note Journaling Series. Two more to go! The theme this week is random thoughts. The goal will be to write down the first 5 thoughts that come to mind when you pick up your pen and sticky note. Should take less than 2 minutes. They can be hilarious, serious, sad, happy, or boring. It is a “brain dump”.
Sometimes when I do this exercise, I don’t seem to have any thoughts for a couple of minutes. Supposedly, it is a good way to reset your brain. If this happens to you, it is a “gift”. Some people try for hours to clear their minds when they are meditating. You did it just by asking yourself “What is my next thought”.
IF you want, you can pick one and continue writing about it on a larger piece of paper or on multiple sticky notes.
At the end of the week, read through the sticky notes. Did you have any good ideas? Did you take any action on one or more of those random thoughts?
Benefits of a Brain Dump or Writing Down Random Thoughts
David Allen in his book “Getting Things Done” advocates doing a brain dump at least once a week. Having followed David for years, I try to do this weekly and have seen the benefits over and over. We have thousands of thoughts per day. How many good thoughts do we actually capture for our benefit?
You can check out David Allen’s book or this article in Lifehack, How to Do the Ultimate Brain Dump.
You can choose to keep the sticky note or tear it to shreds.
