Joan Marie Gagnon has written her first two books in the series Journal Your Way To. Joan started her CPA and Financial Planning business from scratch in 1997. In 1998 she learned from successful WSN members about journaling.  Joan is able to look back on those years and review her journals for evidence that journaling helped her make huge strides in her business and personal growth. Her desire is to help others embrace journaling as one method to attain ultimate health, wealth, and well-being.

Unexpected Benefits of Hobbies

Do you have a hobby?

A hobby is an activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation and not as a main occupation.  There are so many benefits mentally and physically to having hobbies.  Most people that have hobbies are very passionate about them.  When you are in hobby mode, you are generally in a state of mindfulness and presence.  It is a form of meditation for many.

Hobbies are a great way to divert your busy life into another totally different direction from time to time.  Studies have shown that hobbies are beneficial to your brain because they can release positive chemicals into your brain such as dopamine and create new neuro-pathways.   Hobbies can reduce anxiety.  For instance, I get very anxious on airplanes.  The first thing I do is whip out my crocheting and I am good to go.  No need for tranquilizers as long as I have my crocheting project.

Many hobbies enable you to express yourself like no other.  You put your own mark on your creations such as painting, woodworking, singing, gardening, even cleaning or decorating your home.  Having hobbies can generate a sense of pride and accomplishment.

They sometimes enable you to have a special group of friends outside of work that has the same interests or benefits from your hobby.  Socializing is now being touted as a must for good brain health.

Hobbies can contribute to key pathways to human flourishing.  They can provide happiness, friendships, community, beauty, purpose and meaning.  These are just some of the pathways.

Journal Goals, Live Goals

see the light by journalingWe are coming up on the first of 2018.  I posted this same content on my blog last year and, here we are again.  As usual, you probably are beginning to gather up in your mind the goals for the upcoming year and beyond.  In the book, Write It Down, Make It Happen, Henriette Anne Klauser, writes that “life is a decision”.   With 60 plus years under my belt, I can say it is true.  The focus of this blog, Journal Goals, Live Goals, will give you some tools to begin.

I would like to recommend that you begin journaling now to bring clarity to your 2018 goals.  Taking the time to really dwell on your goals will deepen the impact of the result.  Just because we write something down, doesn’t mean it is going to happen.  Yes, it does get the subconscious moving and synchronicities will start to happen, but along the way, we may have blocks and jam ups.  Planning for those blocks ahead of time will make the goal more attainable.

Sticky Note Journaling Week 7 – The Finale

Congratulations, if you are reading this, there is a good chance you participated in the entire Sticky Note Journaling Series.  The purpose of these weekly exercises was to introduce you slowly to journaling.  I hope you realized that this practice doesn’t have to take a lot of your time.   Journaling isn’t just about writing.  It can open up your life with just 5 minutes per day.   It is “your” time.  I would love to hear some feedback on your experiences the past 6 weeks.

This week, each day choose one of the 6-week topics that touched you.  Then, expand on the theme for five minutes.  You’ll need a bigger piece of paper for this or several sticky notes.  Set a timer, if necessary. When you journal about a topic, if you ask yourself who, what, where, why, and when, you will have enough material to fill a piece of paper.

The themes for the previous weeks were gratitude, life goals, happiness, forgiveness, random thoughts, and friendship.

Have fun with this week’s journaling.  The past six weeks have been practice for you since my new book will be coming out soon.  The title is JOURNAL OUR WAY TO A PEACEFUL WORLD.

Sticky Note Journaling Week 3 – Happiness

Good Morning,
It is week 3 of the Sticky Note Journaling Series – Happiness.  This week your goal is to write every day on one sticky note 5 things that make you happy.  If you could just work on making yourself happy, what would it be?  Just let it flow.  So, at the end of the week, you could potentially have 35 things that make you happy.  And, yes, you can repeat things from previous days.
